I am always looking for fun new moves or techniques to incorporate into my routine. Sometimes the same old moves can get boring. And while I never get bored enough with working out to skip it, something new is always refreshing.
I discovered this one through the new app I am using, Daily Burn. I plan to do a review on it when I have used it for over a week. But I also found the move on Women’s Health when I decided to write this post.
Oh my it is fun! Change up the same old pushup with a little spice. As usual I included a photo and the instructions below. You can always click on the link above to check it out directly at the site though.
“Assume the standard pushup position. As you lower your body toward the floor, lift your right foot off the floor, swing your right leg out sideways, and try to touch your knee to your elbow. Reverse the movement, then push your body back to the starting position. Repeat, but on your next repetition, touch your left knee to your left elbow. Continue to alternate back and forth.”
I admit at first I was a little hesitant to try it. Not because I thought it was stupid, but I can be uncoordinated. I pictured a disaster of me falling because my balance didn’t hold up. I found it to be surprisingly easy to manage. Tough on the muscles but I was able to do it without face planting! That is always a plus. It is a move I will be using often in my routines. Fun and challenging. Two great things!
I was intrigued when I first heard you mention this move! I love this core workout – the home workout I follow has me doing these but they call this move “Creepy Crawlers” haha! I love the workout it gives the lateral abs!
It is so fun to find twists on old workouts. Keeps things fresh! I was so happy yesterday because I did 20 pushups without stopping or struggling! When I was preggo for some reason pushups became really hard and even for a bit after with all the changes your muscles and ligaments go through. It felt amazing to feel strong again like the old me. Frankly, I think remembering how lame and weak I felt is going to be the best birth control around 😉 I was carrying all my xmas stuff in from the garage the other day, two boxes at a time. Jason didn’t immediately tell me to stop I can’t do that etc, like he would have last Christmas. I stopped and thought, it feels good to be capable of things again. No one is treating me like this weak little waif! I hated that the most I think. Oh you can’t do this or that etc. Everyone always fussing over if you were straining yourself. BLAH to that!
I agree – I love being able to do most things myself without needing help. When I was seeing a personal trainer and he was having me to push ups I went right into normal (not girly) push ups and in the beginning I was able to do about 15 normal ones. He said how impressed he was because he doesn’t have women clients who do real push ups. I didn’t even think anything of it! I can do 20-25 depending on the day. I do them every night before bed. Lol. Goofy I know, but one of my favorite physical features are my arms and I feel doing push ups everyday really keeps them toned.
I hate girly push ups! I always have! They are very lame and you can easily do normal ones if you just try and push yourself. Pushups definitely keep arms toned. I love my weight moves but I always make sure to throw in a few pushups 🙂 Good for the whole body!
