I have this memory of a story I wrote, it must have been 4th grade, about an alien. His name was Zark. He got a pimple. It devastated him. I illustrated that bad boy too. It exhilarated me to write about this character, he twisted himself in my brain the way gum sticks in a toddler’s hair. I’m in my early 30’s and I still remember that little alien.

The feelings that filled me at that time were not something I recognized, but it was the same excitement I feel in my sinew when I get the itch to write about anything now. I’ve tried to describe it, but I get a physical desire to spew words from my brain onto a piece of paper or a screen. My chest feels like it will explode if I don’t get whatever words are stewing about out of my brain.

I’ve been writing in some form or another for most of my life. There is no me without writing. This blog started off as a way for me to share things about early motherhood, way back, almost eight years ago. Over time, I’ve changed and grown. I’ve written about Pilates, food, recipes, children’s crafts, and more recently, the meat and potatoes of parenthood. Not all the lovey dovey fluffy stuff either, sometimes, this shit is hard, and so I write about it.

Much like the nature of this blog has shifted, I decided it was time for a name change as well. To reflect the fact that I’m more than just a mom or just into fitness. I’m both, always will be, but my life is more well rounded than that. And as I progress further into my writing career, it was time to update this blog title too. So I’m still fit and a mom and my last name still has Boom in it, but I’m more than those things. I’m Nicole M. VandeBoom and all that goes with that. Fitmommaboom is still in my heart, but that was then and this is now. Nicole M. VandeBoom, with the intention of always being mindful in my motherhood, is honoring myself and my motherhood.

Oh, and in my spare time, I write grown up fiction. Short stories and my first novel in 2018!
