Sunday we had a little shindig at our home. It was hot hot hot, in the 90s. We went tubing, wakeboarding, grilled out, swam in the lake. It was a fantastic day with my family! There was no reason to get together other than the wonderful summer weather!

My grandma even made it over. She really cracked me up yesterday. I was running around in my bikini. At one point when I walked into my living room she stopped me and told me the following:

“You don’t even look like you had a baby! Not at all. You have abs!!!!” She then turned to my hubby and said “you are one lucky man!”

On Saturday we were at another family party. She told me I was too skinny and that she liked me with a little meat on my bones. Then smacked my butt!

HAAAAA

It really made me smile.  The abs comment especially. I mean I know it was my grandma saying these things. When it comes to grandchildren grandmas can be biased. But knowing that my abs are visible to other people made me feel like my hard work has been worth it.

I wasn’t fishing for a compliment. I was simply running around being a momma and trying to get Jack ready for his nap before we headed back on the boat. (don’t worry my grandma, mom, dad, etc stayed behind. There were land babysitters around! We had a lot of people over.)

Then yesterday I came across this little gem of a meme! It really made me giggle because it is so true. In my life at least.

It is how I felt yesterday. I am a little crispy from all the sun. A little sore from being thrown from the tube and I had at least one kinda rough wipeout on the wake board. Jack’s sleep patterns have been rocky at best the past few days. So I am just tired in general. I took it easy today but I did workout.

It isn’t easy. I do not sit around eating boxes of cookies doing nothing. I workout, I eat pretty healthy and clean, and I am active in general. It is not something that just happens. I had to lose about 35lbs of baby weight to get back to what I was. A good 15 of it came off right after having Jack but the rest of it took a while.

I now weigh between 118-120lbs depending on the day. I have had to eliminate dairy as much as possible. It has made a world of difference in my life. It is sad and amazing at the same time. I wish I could tolerate cheese! MMMM

I have even been finding alternatives to decadent desserts (a weakness of mine) I recently made a frozen black grape dessert. I came across it last week and I whipped it up. I am sorry but when I saw how easy it was to make I couldn’t pass it up. It probably took me less time to make than it takes someone to make a lovely ice cream sundae with all the fixings. It is fantastic! I still have some frozen. I did not use walnuts. I also added some water to get it smoother. My food processor wasn’t making it as smooth as I wanted without a little liquid. And a little extra water never hurt anyone. Hydration hydration hydration!

I highly recommend this. You can really do it with any grape. I have been freezing grapes and eating them for about 8 or 9 years. I never thought to puree them though, how silly of me! I actually introduced my hubby to frozen grapes. Initially he thought me bananas until he tried them! Then he was hooked.

So like I said, it isn’t something that just falls on my stomach, these abs. They didn’t just appear one morning. I looked down and was like oooo hey there hot stuff, where did you come from? You’re welcome to stay. No, I bust my ass daily in my workout room, at the barre, and in the kitchen.

Do you prefer to work out in the morning or the evening? I personally prefer morning workouts. It just starts my day right, I have more patience in general, and I feel great all day long. I am flexible though. I will work out in the afternoon or evenings if I have to. I used to have a pretty set routine with my workouts, until I became a mom.

Since having Jack, over 16 months ago, I have learned to be entirely flexible with my workouts. Especially at first in those crazy newborn days. I started workouts again 3 weeks after delivering him. I usually used one of his nap times that I was awake for. That lasted for much of the 1st year. People have asked how I do it or sometimes make other comments regarding my fitness regiment. Flexibility is key and so is dedication. If I were not as dedicated to it, the rest would not come. I FIND the time, morning, noon, or night. The thought that “I don’t have time to do this” never ever ever ever enters my head. I make the time. Even 20 minutes is better than 0 minutes.

NOW he sleeps until nearly 10. So I have lots of time to workout in the morning. The only time I don’t is when I have my Barre class on Tuesday nights and if I want to go for a run during the week. I usually wait until Jason gets home for that. He is pretty supportive of my passion for fitness. That also helps. I could go running with Jack and the jogger but he really wears me out sometimes and that alone time is nice. Selfish? Maybe. But I tend to live entirely for him so a little selfishness is ok from time to time. When it comes to my workouts, yes I can be selfish! It is important to me that I take care of myself. That Jack can look up to me and think wow, my mom works really hard to stay in shape. I hope I rub off on him in that aspect. That he SEES hard work is good for you. Another thing that drives me to keep up with my fitness.

But when it comes down to it I really love a nice early morning workout. As a matter of fact after I post this I am off to workout. We have no classes or plans today so I don’t have to rush around so much.

What do you prefer? What are your secrets to keeping up with your workouts?

Last night I ended up getting on the elliptical for 20 minutes. I forgot to check how far I did because Jason came home during my workout and he ended up staying in our room with me chatting while I finished my workout. Then I came downstairs to make dinner.I actually don’t like my elliptical. I want a treadmill. It was nice when I was a house but I honestly don’t feel like it does anything for me. I guess in a pinch it is cardio though. I would like to sell it and buy a treadmill….

I made a grilled chicken (seasoned with some fresh black pepper and garlic powder) with berries (blue and straw) and greens (spinach and sugar snap peas) salad. With a light honey mustard dressing. I LOVED it! Jason thought it was ok lol

Jason is home today. The boat has to be taken in because of some recall on the motor. They are picking it up at noon. I have a hair appointment at 2:30. Once Jackson is up and I feed him I am going for another run.

We gave him solids for the first time last night. He was pretty hilarious. He did not cry but he did not look like he enjoyed it.We will try again tonight….much to his dismay! LOL Poor kid, we are so mean giving him Organic Rice Cereal.

I am watching the news and they are talking about how training starts TODAY for the Chicago Marathon. You start with 3 miles a day. I am itching to do this. I don’t think realistically I have the time though this year. Mostly because of nursing. If I weren’t nursing Jackson I think things would be easier. I want to try to do this next year though. He will be a year and 4 months, not dependent on me feeding him. He will be big enough to be in a jogging stroller. He can go with me while I train. That is my goal for next year. So for now I will just be happy squeezing runs in when Jason is home….

I did not go running yesterday. We got home from swim a bit after 9am and it was already ridiculously hot out. I thought getting back into running in extreme humidity and heat was probably not the best idea. Plus, we were trying to get Jackson down for a nap. He fought us for a while. We didn’t even get him down until 11. By then it was definitely too hot. Oh well. I did do a Pilates Ball routine. I had a hard time concentrating though because he was crying through a lot of it. I cannot block that out. No matter how much I try.

I am planning on doing the elliptical at some point. My husband is still sleeping and it is in our room. If both he and the baby are not up by 8, in a few minutes, I am just going in there to use it. He can deal. lol

Since it was his 4 month birthday we took him to Build A Bear. I definitely had the most fun out of the 3 of us! haha The poor kid had a belly ache and we didn’t realize it. He had his shots on Thursday and we believe that he was still not feeling awesome from those. By the evening regular Jackson was back though! I love this photo because he looks like he is thinking “Momma, please, can we just stop this nonsense and go home!”

Oh! Just heard the hubby get up and go into Jack’s room. He is up. Time to feed him, then I can work out! WOOO HOOO!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, we sure are!

Yesterday I did 2 miles in 19:30 on the elliptical. I did a total of 25 minutes on there, but I forgot to double check the exact amount of miles I completed. I was also keeping my eye on the baby and thinking about quickly showering and getting ready so we could take him on the boat. But I did pay attention to the 2 mile time, I was very happy with it! It was an excellent workout. I was dripping. I felt amazing.

Jack’s 4 month appointment is in a week. I plan to speak to the dr about his size and if he is ready to be in a jogger. I may have mentioned this already, I am not sure! I know I have told people about my plan. Speaking of this, FOUR MONTH appointment! Holy COW! I cannot believe how time flies. I love it though.

These last few pounds are not coming off as quickly as I would like. I am hanging out in the 131 poundage. The ounces will vary. Some days I am so close to being 130….sigh….I was reading that the last few lbs can be hard to drop when breastfeeding because my body needs the fat stores. So we will see. I bought a pair of size 2 bermuda shorts the other day. That is  my second pair of size 2’s. I suppose I cannot complain too much. However, I would like to be back to what I was. Now that it is nicer out I get workouts on top of workouts. Taking the boat in and out of the dock is a workout. Trying to pull the anchor is as well. Quite the upper body workout for sure. Yesterday I had to pull the entire boat toward the dock myself. The wind was crazy and was blowing it on an angle away from the dock immediately after we pulled up. So I had to hop off and pull the back rope. And she has a big old butt! Not exactly light! No complaints here though.

I am not sure what I want to do for my workout today. The elliptical felt nice yesterday. I am tempted to do it again but a different program. OR I am considering my SHAPE dvd, since I haven’t done it in a while. I am sure my muscles would appreciate a good toning workout. Pilates has been going well, but I really do believe in muscle confusion. I try to not do the same thing too much. Unless, it was running back in the day. One day I WILL run again! I swear it! ha!

We took Jack on the boat for the first time yesterday. HE LOVED IT! We are both so glad. Now we will get to use the boat this summer. Ha! We were a little worried we bought this new toy and the baby would not want any part of it. But he loved when Jason went fast. He would smile and laugh. My little outdoorsman!

Captain Jack! (and Daddy too!)

He LOVES being on his boat!
